I Know God Forgave Me — Why Can't I Forgive Myself?

BJ

Bro. John Barnabas

You confessed. You believe Jesus died for you. Yet every morning the replay starts: \"How could I do that? I am disgusting.\" That is not humility. Often it is shame refusing the verdict of the cross.

There Is No Condemnation in Christ

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. — Romans 8:1

If God has cleared you through Christ's blood, you are not holier than God by keeping yourself on a private punishment plan. Self-condemnation can become a false righteousness — as if suffering longer proves seriousness.

What To Do With Lingering Shame

  1. Confess specifically again if needed — then stop reopening the case
  2. Thank God aloud for the cross when accusations return
  3. Replace \"I am what I did\" with \"I am who Christ says I am\"
  4. Make restitution where wisdom requires — then move forward
  5. Serve others; shame shrinks when love is practiced
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. — 1 John 1:9

Frequently Asked Questions

If I feel shame, does that mean I am not forgiven?

Feelings are not the final court. God's Word is. Bring feelings under Scripture.

Should I tell everyone what I did?

Confess to God always. Confess to appropriate people when wisdom and restoration require it — not for public humiliation.
